Kim Little reacts to 4-1 victory over Lyon

After putting in a player of the match display in Arsenal’s incredible 4-1 win away at Lyon on Sunday, Arsenal captain Kim Little spoke to a few of us in the mixed zone. The first two questions are from Arseblog News.

On what the team learned from the first leg…
We obviously planned for that in the previous game, maybe we didn’t execute certain things as well as we like in the first leg and then today I thought we got it pretty spot on. It was little adjustments with our build up and then small adjustments with how we press them and I think you could probably see just a slight change if you really analyze it in a tactical way, I thought we did it really well and it worked.

On the prospect of equalling Emma Byrne’s club record for Champions League appearances in the final…
I didn’t know that, that’s nice to hear. I’ve already got a message from Emma saying well done so that’s special too to be up there with those legends.

On how Renee Slegers has turned the team around this season…
We’ve not maybe settled in reflected on our journey yet, but Rene came in after Jonas left and we have had to resettle with a slight change in kind of structure within the club, but I think we did that pretty smoothly and we’ve been performing really well. Renee is pretty humble and calm person who doesn’t like to take much of the credit. Definitely you can see this and her aura and how she is has had an impact, I think, especially in tense moments in games where we can stay calm and we do our job I think that is really reflected in us.

On staying calm under pressure…
We speak a lot about emotional regulation and I think we’ve really developed that over the last couple of years and especially this season. It comes quite naturally to me, so it’s not something I overly think about. But I think I try to have a good impact on the team and I try and use that in the best way possible in games like this.

On the 500 travelling fans…
So thankful and proud to represent the fans who come and support us everywhere and back at home. Again, they showed out the numbers today and we hope they can all make it over to Lisbon and be there in support and have that moment with us too.
