Kevin De Bruyne: Mikel Arteta personally wants to sign another £42m Manchester City player for Arsenal in January
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to sign Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the January transfer window.
That is according to TEAMtalk, which has claimed why Arteta wants City and England international midfielder Phillips.
So, what is being reported about Arsenal, Manchester City and Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, according to TEAMtalk, Arsenal are on the hunt for a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window and are looking at a potential deal for Manchester City player Kalvin Phillips.
The report has claimed Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally wants the former Leeds United star at the Emirates Stadium.
“There is a real interest” in Phillips “from Arteta”, according to the report, which has added that there has been no progress over a potential deal at this stage.
The reason why Arteta is interested in the £42 million (Sky Sports) midfielder is because of Thomas Partey.
Partey has had injury issues, and Arsenal want to sign another defensive midfielder in the middle of the season.
The Gunners are aiming to win the Premier League title and are also determined to go far in the UEFA Champions League.
TEAMtalk has claimed that Arsenal think that signing Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa or Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad in January would be too expensive.
Interestingly, City have also been linked with Brazilian star Luiz, a player the club sold because of work permit issues.
Manchester City should not sell Kalvin Phillips to Arsenal
In my view, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola simply cannot sell Kalvin Phillips to Arsenal, especially in the middle of the season.
I know that Guardiola has said that he will not stop a player from going to a direct rival, but I think on this occasion, City have to use common sense.
Just because Phillips has failed to make an impact at the Etihad Stadium does not mean that he would not be able to be a success at Arsenal.
Arsenal are serious challengers for the Premier League title, so why would City give them one of their players and make them stronger?
There is speculation that Juventus want to sign the England international. I believe that City should offload the former Leeds United star to the Italian club, not to Arsenal.
