Arsenal winger Chloe Kelly has been released from international duty with England due to a foot injury picked up in training. She had already been ruled out of this evening’s Nations League clash against Belgium by Sarina Wiegman but will now return to Arsenal for further treatment having now definitely been ruled out of Tuesday’s return game against Belgium.
Clearly with a UWCL semi-final against Lyon on the horizon, a further prognosis will be awaited with some apprehension. Katie McCabe also missed today’s 4-0 win over Greece for Ireland with a calf strain that is being managed, according to reports in Ireland. As far as we are aware, she hasn’t been sent back to club yet.
Arsenal play Leicester at home on 15 April before taking on Lyon on 19 and 27 April in the two legs of their Champions League semi-finals. An Arsenal statement read, ‘Chloe Kelly has returned to us for treatment on a foot injury and will not participate in England’s forthcoming UEFA Women’s Nations League fixtures against Belgium. Yesterday Sarina Wiegman confirmed Kelly’s withdrawal from tonight’s fixture and following further assessment, it has now been decided that she will return to us to aid her rehabilitation.’
