On playing a little more in-field and contributing to Arsenal’s creative game…
I think the way Renee sees the team play and the wingers play is sometimes inverted wingers and it’s quite new to me, but something where I feel like I can add to the team. I think for me, I just want to be at my best every day for the team and Renée gives me confidence in those areas. Sometimes you make mistakes in those areas but it is about the reaction as soon as you lose it and I think for me, that’s really important, but the confidence she gives me is is really high, so I’m feeling good at the moment.
On whether she would like to stay at Arsenal beyond her loan spell…
This is a great club, I think for me, I just want to focus on being the best I can be every day to contribute to this amazing club, amazing team. I’m grateful for the opportunity to bring me here on loan. Of course, I’m still contracted to Manchester City, so I think I have to show respect, but I think for me, I just want to be at my best every single day, give what I can for this season. And who knows what the future holds?
On her contribution off the ball…
I think that’s in my own game. I think for me I want to win the ball back for the team. I want to run for the team and that’s the best form of attack is how you defend. So if you can do it up in the higher areas, you don’t have to do too much too deep. So I think for me that’s the way I look at. I give my all every game and hopefully the fans can see that I’m just trying to be at my best.
On how she reflects on March…
A very positive block. I think the reaction from the group from the Real Madrid game, from the Liverpool defeat as well- I think it was a great reaction. I think you learn so much in those moments and I think it showed a great reaction from the whole team and staff and I think that’s great to see. You’re really challenged in times where it may be a defeat, so I think we’ve been at our best now towards the end of the block and hopefully we can keep moving forwards and be at our best on to the end of season.
On building on existing relationships with her England teammates…
I’ve played with Less (Russo) for years now in the England setups and I think off the pitch, I try to build relationships with players and that helps on the pitch as well. I think for me Renée’s given me a lot of confidence, especially in the final third and Aaron (D’Antino) as well. So I just tried to create and score for the team and put myself in the best possible position, but the girls around you make the job easy when they finish like that today.
On enjoying her football again…
It’s been great. I always said I really wanted to get my smile back and this club has has done just that for me and I’m very grateful and you can see when I have a smile on my face, I just play free and I have good energy. For me that’s what it’s all about. I think when Renee gives that confidence to you, you just have to show and repay that. I’m just having fun, so when I’m having fun, I’m at my best.
